At Wisconsin Dental Wellness, we offer a number of different options for orthodontic correction using clear plastic aligners. Our options include Invisalign, ClearCorrect, MTM Clear Aligners, Inman Aligners, and Smart Moves Clear Aligners. At your orthodontic consultation, Dr. Lau will assess your smile and make recommendations about which treatment is right for your orthodontic needs.
Each aligner system uses a different type of plastic, but each system operates using the same basic principles. Rather than using a “bracket-and-wire” system like traditional braces, these aligners use a retainer-like, hard plastic aligner to shift the position of your teeth. Clear aligners are extremely thin, yet durable. None of these aligner options interfere with speech, and they can be removed for eating and drinking, brushing and flossing, and other daily activities. For these reasons, clear aligners have become very popular among orthodontic patients who would like to avoid highly visible traditional metal braces.
The treatment process for each aligner system is very similar. During your consultation, Dr. Lau will determine whether you are a good candidate for clear aligners and help you decide which system is right for you. Next, he will take images and impressions of your teeth, which are then sent to a third-party lab where your aligners are designed and manufactured. You’ll wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, for 20-22 hours per day. Every 6 weeks, you’ll come in for a quick oral exam at Wisconsin Dental Wellness and Dr. Lau will check the progress of your treatment and give you your next sets of aligners. Treatment time is typically just under a year, though this can vary.
Clear aligners are a popular choice for orthodontic correction because they come with a wide range of benefits, including:
